"Carl's date": the short film of "Up" that will give its protagonist a new start
The next production will once again bring Carl Fredricksen and his faithful pet Dug to the
big screen14 years ago, Pixar released one of its most popular films to date, Up , which
depicted the relationship between an elderly
widower and a little boy scout. The story managed to move children
and adults, and earned more than 735 million dollars at the box
office. Now Carl, the protagonist, returns in a new animated short
that will be screened alongside the film Elements . Based on the
2009 animated feature, Carl's Date will see Carl (voiced by Ed
Asner) and Dug (Bob Peterson) return to face their biggest
challenge yet: preparing the old man for his death . first date since
the death of his late wife Ellie.
Ellie played a significant role in the original film despite the fact that her passing took place in the introduction before the main events of the story. Still, her presence can be felt throughout the story as Carl continues to struggle with the pain of losing his wife. The opening sequence of Up , which portrays the couple's relationship, continues to be one of the most remembered scenes of the film, introducing themes of love and pain in its plot.
Following the end of the Pete Docter-directed film, Carl started a new family with his dog Dug and bonded with boy scout Russell (Jordan Nagai). Now Carl's Date , will see the grumpy but lovable widower discovering life after love. According to the synopsis: “The viewer will catch up with Carl, as he reluctantly agrees to go on a date with a friend, but he has no idea how dating works these days. Always a helpful friend, Dug steps in to calm Carl's pre-date nerves and offer some tried-and-true tips for making friends, if you're a dog."
Following the success of Up came a series of sequels, Life as
Dug , which premiered on Disney+ in 2021 and followed Carl's new
canine companion in five shorts as he settled into his new life in the
suburbs. . Now the new short will accompany the next
film Elements . This short film will mark a return to the Pixar tradition
of showing this type of short adventure alongside its big releases.
